Bigger than the sum of its parts?

Hey developers!! I was staring at my traffic log as usual and noticed a hit from Antair Games’ blog. Gavin, who posted his Sneezies app earlier this morning, has some interesting observations about my little project here:

I’m convinced that small groups/networks of Indie developers have a lot more power than they realize or try to make use of. With their shared Google juice and combined readership… all those resources well directed could undoubtedly create a huge amount of success. There’s a lot of practical problems with that though, one being that any success almost certainly wouldn’t be spread evenly around the group, and we all want to do well… basically there’s power in the group, but someone has to figure out how to tap into it and direct it, and it’s probably not possible to predict who the light will shine on.

…iPhone App Index, nice idea, hopefully not doomed to epic spam fail. And, imagine if everyone who posts on there also posted a to link back from their own blog, dugg the site, twittered about it to their friends. Then you start to get some idea of the power the network could have.

I never really considered the impact that iPhone App Index could have on the balance of power in the App Store, but I have to agree that if a small army of developers gets onboard then something very interesting could happen.

At the very least maybe a better dialogue between maker and user could be opened up… one that’s got more meat to it than the one-sided  ”this app is gay” App Store comment. Looking at the bigger picture, though, maybe the small independents will adopt this site as their second home and, in the process, boost each other’s sales figures by bringing their fanclubs along with them.

All developers are welcome to sign up and post your stuff here, but if you’re more of a Davey than a Goliath I really, really hope you’ll participate in the site and try to make the most of it. Do it for the link juice, do it for the free advertising, do it because you like my fake green App Store icon… whatever your reasons, it can only help your efforts.

Thanks for the blog post Gavin! Here’s the url again:
